Do not drop them or place them where they might fall Do not place any heavy object where it might fall onto a cylinder or knock against it |
Pick up a cylinder by gently expanding two fingers of one hand inside the cylinder. Support its end with your other hand until you are confident of not dropping it. Do not grasp the cylinder by the outside surface |
Always stand cylinders on their ends, never on their sides Replace them in their boxes as soon as possible |
Do not place a warm cylinder onto a cold mandrel. It will contract onto the mandrel, sieze and then split. Allow cylinders and mandrel to reach room temperature before using them Do not handle cylinders excessively with warm hands. Never leave a cylinder on the mandrel when you have finished with it |
Warm it gently by cupping it in the palms of your hands; it should expand and ease its grip Push firmly against the end of the cylinder in several places with the backs of the fingernails of one hand whilst cupping the other hand to receive the cylinder when it suddenly releases its grip. If it does not immediately release, rotate it a few degrees, warm it again and keep trying. NEVER attempt to release it by striking it |
